Motivation

Motivation
The back bone of all students behavior is Motivation. To have well run classes in which students learn, you must see that students’ motivation favorable towards leaning. It is the key both to good learning and to good discipline. Only students who are well motivated learn well. When students fail to learn, the chances are great that the basic cause of the trouble has to do with motivation.
There are two types of Motivations. They are
ü  Extrinsic Motivation.
ü  Intrinsic Motivation.
Ordinarily learning proceeds best when it is intrinsically motivated, that is to say, when students learn what they learn because they want to learn it.
When the things students should learn in their classes seem to have no intrinsic value to them, we must turn to extrinsic motivation. To do so we try to provide the students with a reason that will stimulate them to learn even though they do not see value in learning.
The following are the Motivational Theories.

  • The behavioral view of Motivation.
  •  The social cognitive view of motivation.
  •  The humanistic view of Motivation
  •  Motivating students with technology.

New ammunition for the development of techniques and strategies that can be helpful in the motivating of the students can be found in reinforcement theory. Basically this theory holds that one should reward students when they behave in the way one desires, but not when they behave in undesirable way. As we develop and use teaching methods that utilize reinforcement techniques properly, we should find our students becoming better motivated and better behaved.
